Injured Reece James to Miss FIFA World Cup

Star England national team and Chelsea player, Reece James, will not be representing his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup owing to a knee injury.

On Tuesday, 8 November, Gareth Southgate reportedly contacted the 22-year-old right-back to let him know that he would not be part of the 26-man squad that would be playing in the World Cup hosted in Qatar later this month.

James – who picked up the injury during Chelsea’s Champions League game against AC Milan on 11 October – shared the sad news the following day via his Twitter account.

He posted: “Devastated. The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turn around [sic] to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible.

“I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believed I could help the team,” the England native mused.

Southgate is expected to publicly announce the final World Cup line-up on Thursday, 10 November.
