Inside Messi’s Shocking Barcelona Exit
Barcelona has confirmed that Lionel Messi is set to leave the club, after 21 years of service due to La Liga’s financial regulations.
A few weeks ago, Messi agreed to a new five-year contract at the Camp Nou, but now the Argentina captain will not play another game in a Barcelona shirt.
Per reports, Messi was left shocked and disappointed by the club‘s decision – he returned to Catalonia following his post-Copa America holiday, believing that everything was fine as he was willing to take a 50% pay cut just to remain at his boyhood club.
However, the 34-year-old forward was told that it was not possible to extend his contract “due to economic and structural obstacles.”
Messi joined the Blaugrana when he was 13-years-old, winning six Ballon d’Or awards, 10 La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, eight Spanish Super Cups, and six Copa del Rey cups while at Camp Nou.
Now a free agent, PSG are reportedly making progress in trying to secure Messi’s services ahead of the 2021/22 season.
