“Jerusalema” Drama: Master KG Fires Back at Nomcebo Zikode
Master KG has hit back at Nomcebo Zikode’s claims that she hasn’t received any royalties from the hit song, “Jerusalema”.
Last year, “Jerusalema” – which features Zikode’s vocals – took the world by storm, turning the singer into an overnight sensation. However, she took to Twitter on Sunday morning, 11 July, to make some serious accusations.
She wrote: “I have not been paid a cent by the label for #jerusalema [sic] despite the song’s global success. I have been ridiculed, with efforts to marginalise my contribution … I, as a female artist, can’t stay silent on this any more [sic], the matter is now with my lawyers.”
In response, Master KG tweeted: “Last Year Nomcebo Started Jerusalema Tour Without Me And I Never Had A Problem And Few Weeks Back I Started My Tour And Then Nomcebo Went To The Media and Created a Story That I’m Leaving Her behind [sic].”
Retorting that they had a 50/50 earnings deal over “Jerusalema” – although Zikode apparently wants 70% – he added in a now-deleted tweet that she received over R1 million for the song.
Open Mic Productions, to whom Master KG and Zikode are signed, are currently engaged with both parties to deal with this matter.
