Johnson Blasts Match Officials After 1-1 Draw
Kaizer Chiefs coach, Cavin Johnson, is seeing red with the officiating conducted during Amakhosi’s match against AmaZulu FC on Sunday, 12 May.
Playing at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, striker Ashley Du Preez scored Chiefs’ first and only goal just two minutes into the game. Thirty-seven minutes later, AmaZulu equalised the score, thanks to a header from forward Victor Letsoalo.
However, Letsoalo’s goal seemed to have come from an offside position, as shown on television replays.
Nevertheless, the goal still stood, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
In a post-match interview, Johnson expressed his frustrations with not only his players for missing opportunities to score, but also with the match officials.
“The goal [AmaZulu] scored against us, I thought it was a free kick to us beforehand,” he bemoaned. “The players switched off, which is not normal, it was a good cross and a cheap goal, [but] I thought it was not necessary from the official; he should have given us a free kick … he didn’t give us a penalty.”
Despite the draw, Kaizer Chiefs are sitting in eighth place on the Premier Soccer League table with 35 points, while AmaZulu are in 12th place with 33 points.
