Jose Riveiro Suspended By PSL

Orlando Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro, has been suspended by the Premier Soccer League.

During the Bucs’ Nedbank Cup Round of 32 match against All Stars FC last weekend, Riveiro took umbrage at the match officials over their refereeing around the 60th minute. He was then shown a red card and sent off the pitch.

According to assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi, Riveiro’s foul language likely prompted the officials to give him his marching orders.

“From what I heard from the officials, maybe the language that was used,” Ncikazi explained during a recent interview with a sports outlet. “I don’t know, what was said was not permissible in the field of play, that’s all they said. But I’m not sure what really happened.”

As a result of his suspension, Riveiro will not present during Pirates’ DStv Premiership match against Maritzburg United this Friday, 17 February. In his absence, Ncikazi will hold down the fort.
