Kaizer Chiefs Beat Sekhukhune United 1-0

Midfielder Mfundo Vilakazi was the beau of the football match, helping Kaizer Chiefs secure a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United on Sunday, 19 January.

Playing at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Chiefs were kept on their toes throughout the first half – even with 64% possession of the ball – by the Limpopo outfit.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, with both teams preventing each other from scoring.

The Soweto giants’ fortunes changed in the 84th minute when Sekhukhune defender Vuyo Letlapa was shown a red card for a challenge on Vilakazi, leaving Babina Noko with ten players. Two minutes later, Vilakazi capitalised on the opportunity to net the only goal of the match, leading Amakhosi to a 1-0 victory.

As a result, Kaizer Chiefs are sitting in fifth place on the Premier Soccer League rankings with 21 points. They are two points away from overtaking Sekhukhune United, who currently occupy fourth place.
