Kenya: Policeman Shoots Six Dead Outside Capital
A police officer killed at least six people, including himself, during an overnight shooting spree near Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday, 7 December.
According to reports from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Kenyan officer first shot and killed his wife in their home situated in Kiambu county, some 14 kilometres northwest of the capital, in the early hours of the morning.
The rogue policeman – identified by the DCI as Police Constable Benson Imbasi – then used his service-issued AK-47 to randomly shoot at four innocent persons who happened to be nearby, killing a motorcycle taxi rider and three men returning from funeral preparations.
Imbasi eventually turned the rifle on himself after his rampage, leaving six dead as well as two others hospitalised with critical wounds.
Francis Wahome, the commanding officer for the Dagoretti area, confirmed that there was no immediate motive, aside from claims that the couple were fighting before the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
