King Charles Diagnosed With Cancer
Buckingham Palace released a statement on Monday, 5 February, announcing that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer.
“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” the statement read somberly before clarifying:: “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”
As of yet, it has not been made public what type of cancer the 75-year-old monarch is suffering from, or what stage the disease is at. However, some officials have confirmed that it is not prostate cancer.
For now, the king has postponed his public-facing duties but he will continue to attend private meetings and handle his paperwork.
Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is expected to fly back to England in the upcoming days to visit his father. King Charles reportedly shared the news privately with Prince Harry and his brother, heir apparent Prince William.
It’s unclear whether Meghan Markle and their two children, four-year-old son Prince Archie and two-year-old daughter Princess Lilibet, will be travelling with Prince Harry.
Messages of support from celebrities, politicians and religious leaders have been pouring in for the King since the announcement.
