Lampard Breaks Hand After Everton-Newcastle Banger
Everton have risen a few points above the relegation zone, but it cost coach Frank Lampard his hand – sort of.
Taking on Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Thursday, 17 March, the Toffees won the game 1-0 after winger Alex Iwobi struck at the 99th minute. As a result, they have been lifted three points above the English Premier League’s relegation zone.
Lampard’s men celebrated their victory at full-time, but as the coach revealed in a post-match interview, it got a little out of hand (no pun intended).
“I’ve broken my hand in the celebrations,” the 43-year-old Englishman sheepishly admitted. “I Didn’t realise at the time, but as the game carried on, my hand started to get a bit more shaky. I’ve already spoken to [the club doctor] and he’s given me a couple of pills.”
Pooh-poohing his injury, Lampard praised his team for their spirited performance on the pitch.
“The whole evening was a big night for us,” he said. “We have 11 games to go now but we were all waiting for this moment. A night of fight, togetherness, and that all exploded around the stadium when we scored.”
