Liverpool Crash Out of Champions League as PSG Triumph

Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League campaign ended in heartbreak last night, Tuesday 11 March, as Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) knocked them out on penalties at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, England.

Despite holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, Arne Slot’s side was undone by Ousmane Dembele’s early strike, which levelled the tie on aggregate.

The Reds had their chances, with Mohamed Salah and Jarell Quansah going close, but PSG defended resolutely. Gianluigi Donnarumma, who had a mixed first leg, emerged as the game’s hero, saving penalties from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Slot called it “the best game of football” of his career, praising his team’s intensity and fight. However, the disappointment was evident, especially with Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to miss the Carabao Cup final this Sunday, 16 March, after being forced off due to injury.

PSG manager Luis Enrique hailed his men’s mental strength, highlighting their ability to recover from the first-leg defeat. With their sights now set on the quarter-finals, the Parisians look like serious contenders for the trophy.

For Liverpool, their attention now turns to domestic competitions, but this European exit will sting for some time.
