Liverpool Limps Away from Arsenal Clash
Liverpool’s position as the top dogs of the English Premier League (EPL) table was challenged after a sour 3-1 loss to Arsenal last night, Sunday 4 February.
The two titan teams had their 200th league meeting at Emirates Stadium in London, England, with fans flocking to see the competition.
Quickly claiming their home turf advantage, the Gunners put the first point on the scoreboard at the 14th-minute mark as striker Bukayo Saka took advantage of a briefly unguarded net.
Three minutes into half-time, the Reds finally received a point for their side however, it was more due to an embarrassing mistake by Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães – who scored an own goal – than any actual skill on Liverpool’s behalf.
Mikel Arteta’s side’s perseverance paid off during the second half of the match as Gunners forward, Gabriel Martinelli, scored a second goal for the team in the 67th minute.
Arsenal secured their victory two minutes into stoppage time, as striker Leandro Trossard brought the scoreboard to 3-1, with help from his teammate, Jakub Kiwior.
The victory places the Gunners just two points behind the Reds atop the EPL table, only further fueling the fan fire between the pair.
