Liverpool Out of the FA Cup
Brighton & Hove Albion earned themselves a surprising last-minute 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday, 29 January, kicking the Reds out of the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The two teams came together at Falmer Stadium in Brighton, England, for the second time in as many weeks, with the visitors hoping to reclaim some of their dignity after a 3-0 defeat on 14 January.
Liverpool striker Harvey Elliot claimed his side’s first and only goal thirty minutes into the match, with an assist from his team-mate, Mohamed Salah.
Just nine minutes later, defender Lewis Dunk – assisted by Tariq Lamptey – equalised the game, bringing the Seagulls onto the scoreboard.
Both clubs received a series of yellow cards as they struggled for control in the second half, causing pundits to wonder if either side would be able to establish a meaningful win.
However, it was Brighton defender Kaoru Mitoma who sealed the deal, scoring a victory goal two minutes into stoppage time, with the help of Pervis Estupiñán.
The loss leaves Liverpool sitting ninth in the English Premier League table, three places behind their hosts. Brighton, on the other hand, will find out who they will be facing in the fifth round of the FA Cup today, Monday 30 January.
