Liverpool Tame Wolves 4-0 to Top League Table
Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, was overwhelmed by the fans’ return and his squad’s performance after they won 4-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday, 6 December.
The Reds got to enjoy playing for a home crowd for the first time since March – recently, lockdown regulations have been eased, and English Premier League (EPL) stadium attendance has been allowed in a limited capacity.
The 53-year-old German was emotional as he celebrated the victory – along with 2 000 supporters – and heaped praise on his striker, Mohamed Salah, who gave the hosts the 1-0 lead at the 24th minute.
The Reds added another to the scoreboard at the 58th minute when midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum found the back of the net, and again at the 67th minute when centre-back Joel Matip contributed to the tally.
The cherry on the cake came at the 78th minute from an own goal by Wolves’ Nelson Semedo.
Klopp was beaming as he said: “The game, the atmosphere, it was so nice. I had goosebumps. [The fans] started ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ – really nice. I never knew it could feel that good.”
The victory puts Liverpool at the top of the EPL log, although they share the position with Tottenham Hotspur, with each club at 24 points.
