Mabasa Hits 50 as Pirates See Off TS Galaxy
Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa reached a remarkable milestone on Tuesday, 30 September, scoring his 50th goal for the Buccaneers in their convincing 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Orlando Stadium.
The Botshabelo-born player, who is affectionately known as the “Sniper”, came off the bench to secure victory deep into stoppage time with a trademark close-range header.
The 28-year-old said: “It’s a surreal feeling, honestly. It’s what dreams are made of – the support that one has got from teammates, technical team and management has really made it easy for me to accomplish what I have so far with the club.”
Following Mabasa’s milestone, Pirates legend Benedict Vilakazi publicly threw his full support behind the striker, praising his progress and insisting he has what it takes to surpass his own record: 58 goals.
The victory over TS Galaxy continues Pirates’ impressive run of form under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, with five straight league wins lifting them firmly into title contention.
Pirates are currently 3rd on the League Table with 15 points from 7 matches.
