Major League DJz Nominated for BET Award
South African music producers, Major League DJz, have been nominated for a Black Entertainment Television (BET) award in the Best International Act category for their amapiano sound. Voting is now open.
The pair find themselves competing with other well-known artists from around the world including Fally Ipupa (DRC), Fireboy DML (Nigeria), Tems (Nigeria), Little Simz (UK), Ludmilla Brazil), and Tayc and Dinos (both from France). Nigerian artist Burna Boy won the same award last year.
For 21 years, the BETs have celebrated black entertainers in music, film and sports from around the world. Senior Vice-President and General Manager for Paramount Africa and Peer Lead, BET International, Monde Twala, shared:
“We are exhilarated to recognise this year’s nominees, international and, most importantly, our African nominees who always bring dynamic, entertaining and celebrated content to our attention through their incredible creativity and talent.
“The fact that our African artists like Major League DJz, Tems, Wizkid, and Fireboy DML are recognised on a worldwide scale at this year’s BET Awards demonstrates that their incredible work will always be valued and cherished.”
The awards ceremony is scheduled to bring Black Music Month to a close on 26 June at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California. For international audiences, the show will air live on Monday, 27 June, on DStv channel 129 at 02:00 CAT.
Meanwhile, the nominees for the South African Music Awards will be announced tomorrow, Tuesday 7 June, with fans expecting Major League DJz to receive another nomination as well.
