Makhanya Divulges on Overseas Club Talks

Four European teams are interested in signing Stellenbosch FC midfielder, Olwethu Makhanya.

In a recent interview with a local soccer outlet, the 19-year-old revealed that these particular clubs were interested in signing him, but he wants actions to speak to louder than words.

“I already have people talking to me, but so far it’s just talk, nothing concrete,” Makhanya explained. “I’d like for the talk to be accompanied by action like being invited to be assessed. I want straight things, paperwork, I want action if I can put it like that.

“The teams I’m talking to, there’s a team from Belgium, there’s one from Portugal and France. There’s also a team from Denmark, but those three are the ones I’m maybe looking forward to.”

Having made his mark last season – and helping Stellenbosch rise to seventh place on the Premier Soccer League rankings – it’s no wonder Makhanya is receiving this much attention.

Although Mamelodi Sundowns are also said to be interested in his services, the defender added that going overseas is a “big target for me.”

“If an opportunity comes up, I’d be happy to take it because those kinds of chances are rare … Even if I don’t go next season, at some point I have to go overseas.”
