Mamelodi Sundowns Secure 2-0 Victory Over Marumo Gallants

Mamelodi Sundowns secured a crucial 2-0 Betway Premiership victory over Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, 19 August.

Playing at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, Gauteng, Sundowns – following the recent cancellation of their match against Orlando Pirates – needed to gain a win to keep themselves in the race for silverware.

The Brazilians opened the scoreboard in the 21st minute, with Malibongwe Khoza netting a close-range shot from the corner.

However, they suffered a setback ten minutes before half-time, when right-back Khuliso Mudau was stretchered off the pitch after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury.

Come the second half, though, Sundowns managed to keep the fiery Gallants at bay. They successfully defended against the threat posed by aggressive set-pieces and maintained control of the ball. This allowed forward Cassius Mailula to add a second goal for the Brazilians in the 67th minute.

As a result of their 2-0 win, Mamelodi Sundowns are sitting pretty in third place of the Premier Soccer League rankings with seven points. As for Marumo Gallants, they’re trailing in last place with one meagre point.
