Man City Unstoppable as They Claim EPL Title
It was a day of celebration for Manchester City fans as they watched their team claim a 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, 21 May, granting them a third successive English Premier League (EPL) title.
The Citizens were relaxed and confident going into the match at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England as their closest EPL rivals, Arsenal, had lost their game 1-0 to Nottingham Forest the prior day, taking them out of the running for the title.
Man City forward Julián Álvarez scored Sunday’s single goal just 12 minutes into the match, assisted by midfielder Cole Palmer. For the rest of the game, the team focussed on defence, preventing the Blues from scoring their desperately-needed equaliser.
The flood of City fans that took over the field after the final whistle blew left the announcer pleading for the semi-clad people to leave the pitch peacefully – a call which fell on deaf ears.
Pundits were unsurprised about the win, which puts the Citizens at 88 points on the EPL table – a full seven points above second-place Arsenal.
For the remainder of the 2022/2023 season, the EPL champions will focus on a Treble win as they gear up for the Football Association Challenge Cup final in London, England and the Champions League final in Istanbul, Türkiye.
