Man U Flatten Villa in Carabao Cup Clash
Manchester United and Aston Villa slugged it out in their English Football League (EFL) Cup clash last night, Thursday 10 November, but in the end the scoreboard reflected 4-2 in Man U’s favour.
The crowd at Old Trafford could have snoozed through the first half and not missed anything, but after the break, both sides came out determined to win and Villa were first on the board with a strike from Ollie Watkins at the 48-minute mark.
Just a minute later, United charged down the field, allowing Anthony Martial to level the score. However, his team-mate Diogo Dalot gave the lead back to the visitors when he scored an own goal as 61 minutes elapsed on the clock.
Then, the gloves came off, and the Red Devils fought their way back into the lead as Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes contributed goals at the 67th and 78th minute mark, respectively. The final nail in the coffin for Villa came from Scott McTominay one minute into stoppage time.
After the 3-1 stomping by the Lions last weekend, United coach, Erik ten Hag, was more than pleased with the final result, especially with 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho, who came on during the second half and made an immediate impact on the game’s pace.
The win puts Man U into the EFL Cup last 16.
