Man United Hands Iconic No.7 to Ronaldo
Manchester United has officially confirmed that their new signee, Christiano Ronaldo, will wear his symbolic number seven shirt during the 2021/22 English Premier League (EPL) season.
Ronaldo is known for wearing the specific number throughout his career – however, striker Edinson Cavani already claimed the digit on a previous occasion, and EPL guidelines prohibit players from swapping shirts during a campaign.
The situation had been a touchy subject, until it was announced on Tuesday, 2 September, that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner would be granted special permission from the Premier League to don his favourite top.
The Portugal skipper was relieved and thanked Cavani for being so gracious.
Ronaldo said: “I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again, so I would like to say a huge thank you to [Edinson Cavani] for this incredible gesture.”
