Margot Robbie Brushes Aside Oscars Snub
Margot Robbie has responded to being snubbed by the Academy Awards.
Last month, fans of “Barbie” were upset that Robbie – who played the titular character – and director Greta Gerwig did not score Oscar nods for their respective work on the 2023 flick.
At a special Screen Actors Guild screening of the Golden Globe-winning picture on Tuesday, 30 January, Robbie took the snub in her stride.
“There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed,” the 33-year-old actress told the audience. “We set out to do something that would shift culture. And [‘Barbie’ has] already done that … and that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”
While she showed love for her “Barbie” co-stars who received nominations – Ryan Gosling for Best Supporting Actor, and America Ferrera for Best Supporting Actress – Robbie was disappointed about Gerwig being left out of the Best Director category.
“Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off.”
At least Robbie, as the film’s producer, scored a Best Picture nod, while Gerwig – who co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach – is being touted to win the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
