Mbappe Triumphs in €60m Dispute Against Former Club PSG
A labour court in Paris, France, has ordered Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to pay former striker Kylian Mbappe €60 million in withheld earnings on Tuesday, 16 December.
The ruling covers unpaid salaries and bonuses from the final months of the Frenchman’s contract before his free transfer to Real Madrid in 2024.
The tribunal dismissed PSG’s staggering €440m counter-claim, which sought damages for “loss of opportunity” after the forward rejected a record move to Saudi Arabia. Judges noted that the club failed to provide any written evidence that the player had agreed to waive his financial entitlements.
Mbappe’s legal team celebrated the verdict, stating: “This judgment confirms that commitments entered into must be honoured. It restores a simple truth: even in the professional football industry, labour law applies to everyone.”
The 26-year-old, who remains PSG’s record goalscorer, had also alleged moral harassment during the fallout, though the court rejected those specific claims.
PSG confirmed they would execute the payment but remain open to a challenge, stating: “Paris St-Germain takes note of the judgement pronounced by the Paris Labour Court, which it will execute, while reserving the right to appeal.”
