Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt Return for “The Devil Wears Prada” Sequel
This is not a drill, folks! After 18 years, the 2006 hit film “The Devil Wears Prada” will be getting a sequel.
According to reports on Monday, 8 July, Meryl Streep will reprise her iconic role as Miranda Priestly, alongside Emily Blunt as her former assistant, Emily Charlton.
While Anne Hathaway – who played Andy Sachs in the first movie – has not confirmed her return, original producer Wendy Finerman and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna are on board with the idea.
The sequel’s plot will revolve around Miranda facing the challenges of the declining print magazine industry. Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive, holds significant influence in the fashion world and has become a crucial ally. Fans will see how the dynamic between Miranda and Emily evolves in this new landscape.
Although Hathaway expressed doubts about a sequel, she has previously expressed gratitude for the film’s enduring popularity. She envisions Andy living in Paris, working for a French women’s magazine.
The original film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, was a cultural phenomenon, earning Streep a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. The sequel has big shoes to fill, but with Streep and Blunt returning, anticipation is high for another foray into the glamorous yet cutthroat world of fashion.
