Mofokeng Eyes Massive Payout Farewell
Former Orlando Pirates sensation Relebohile Mofokeng could be set for a financially lucrative departure from South African football. Following his official transfer to Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, a move secured directly after his recent heroics playing for Bafana Bafana, the young forward has racked up four prestigious nominations for the upcoming PSL Awards on July 27, 2026.
Mofokeng captured global attention at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by orchestrating South Africa’s historic run to the knockout rounds for the very first time. Stepping into the crucial number 10 playmaker role, he delivered an influential performance in a 1-1 draw against Czechia before pulling the strings with four key passes in a famous 1-0 victory over South Korea.
His phenomenal domestic season with the Buccaneers, where he registered 11 goals and nine assists across 36 appearances, earned him additional recognition. His nominations include the coveted Footballer of the Season, Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season, Midfielder of the Season, and Young Player of the Season.
If Mofokeng sweeps the categories, he stands to pocket over half a million Rand in prize money based on previous payout structures. The Footballer of the Season accolade alone rewarded winners with R250,000 last term, while the Players’ Player of the Season brings a hefty R200,000 reward.
Reflecting on the player’s incredible trajectory before his European move, his former coach at Orlando Pirates previously lauded his growth, stating, “He is a player who listens, who wants to learn, and his maturity on the pitch at such a young age is rare.”
