Monday Motivation: 24 July
Got the Monday blues? Reclaim the day and set the tone for the entire week with these helpful, motivational tidbits:
“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself” – Coco Chanel, French fashion designer
Happy international self-care day! Learn to love, respect and care for yourself, make your mental and physical wellness a priority, and gently remind yourself that you are contributing to the world’s value.
As this gem from Coco Chanel suggests, you should never have to focus on being a people-pleaser, nor do you have to sacrifice certain aspects, traits and characteristics that make you who you are just to impress somebody else or society at large.
Instead, you need to take a step back, look at yourself and find the beauty that sets you apart from the rest. Once you discover this, you will find the strength to cherish it and wear it with pride – being true to yourself is the most beautiful, rewarding thing you can do, and no one can take it away from you.
“Every one of us needs to show how much we care for each other and, in the process, care for ourselves” – Princess Diana, English activist/member of the British Royal Family
By practising self-compassion as shown by this quote by Princess Diana, you are then able to connect more with others. You will feel fulfilled and more confident in yourself by showing kindness and love to others, which will heighten your sense of self-love even more. It’s a healthy circle that benefits all!
“Selfishness at the expense of others is bad. Self-care for the betterment of others is good” – Richie Norton, US author/entrepreneur
Sometimes we prioritise other people’s needs over our own. Other times, we prioritise their wants over our own wellbeing, which can prove a huge detriment to our overall health.
If you do wish to improve someone else’s life, you have to start with yourself first – think of it as being on a plane, whereby you need to put your oxygen mask on before helping anyone else with theirs when the air cabin pressure drops.
Practise self-care daily. This can include taking a walk to the park, eating a healthy meal, splurging on a spa day, exercising, or listening to music while taking a bubble bath. They may be small things, but they’re huge steps towards promoting your health and happiness in the long-run, and at no one else’s expense.
