Moroka Swallows Denied Sponsorship Deal
David Mogashoa, chairperson of Moroka Swallows, was left fuming after his attempt to secure desperately needed funds was thwarted once again.
A frustrated Mogashoa initially spoke with a local publication on Tuesday, 2 January, revealing that Michael Murphy – who is an attorney representing the Premier Soccer League (PSL) – had shut down a sponsorship deal with Goldrush.
However, the Swallows boss returned to the news outlet the following day to clarify the confusion: according to Murphy, Goldrush was either unable or unwilling to sign a declaration that outlined some of the PSL’s rules and regulations.
It’s understandable that Mogashoa is feeling particularly tense at the moment, as the club has been facing significant financial struggles recently. The Swallows were forced to request that the PSL cancel two matches – against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows – last week after their players went on strike due to unpaid wages.
An internal disciplinary committee will convene on Friday, 5 January, to discuss the players who refused to attend the matches and their future at the club.
