Mozambique: President Dismisses 6 Ministers in Cabinet Reshuffle
Mozambique’s President, Filipe Nyusi, has reshuffled his cabinet, and fired six of his ministers in the process.
On Wednesday night, 2 March, a brief statement was issued from the President’s office, naming those government officials who had been dismissed as per “the President using the powers awarded to him under the constitution.”
Among those given marching orders were Finance and Economy Minister, Adriano Afonso Maleiane, and Mineral Resources and Energy Minister, Ernesto Elias Tonela.
No reasons were provided for the shake up, even after multiple news outlets requested explanations, nor were any appointments to the newly vacant positions announced.
The move is the second governmental shift in the space of only a few months.
In November 2021, president Nyusi axed his Interior Minister, Amade Miquidade, and then only a day later did the same fate befall Minister of Defence, Jaime Neto. Both decisions were made without any explanations being offered.
