Mzansi to Bid a “Painful” Goodbye to Gomora
Actress Sannah “Sana” Mchunu admitted that “it’s painful to lose work” in response to the news that the beloved South African television series, “Gomora” will end after its fourth season.
On Tuesday, 11 April, Mzansi Magic made the disappointing announcement that the popular telenovela will be coming to an end on 20 October as they strive “to keep abreast of changing consumer viewership preferences”, according to a press release.
Several other locally produced soapies have also recently come to an end, including “The River”, “Imbewu: The Seed”, “The Queen”, “Durban Gen” and “DiepCity”.
While Gomora has run for three years, the final season will air on Monday, 24 April, “where viewers can expect intense action and an emotional rollercoaster” according to Mchunu’s post via Instagram on Wednesday, 12 April.
The 51-year-old actress – who played “Zodwa” in the series that is filmed in the Alexandra township in Gauteng – went on to thank her colleagues, crew and followers for all of their “blessings” and “support” that they’ve provided over the years.
Executive producer, Leanne Khumalo, also told a local publication that “these characters and stories will live in the hearts and homes of many people for years to come.”
