Napoli Unimpressed with Lack of Action Against Francesco Acerbi
Napoli are less than impressed with Serie A sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea’s decision to not punish Inter Milan’s Francesco Acerbi for an alleged racist comment.
Acerbi was accused of making an inappropriate comment to Napoli defender, Juan Jesus, when the two teams went head-to-head earlier this month in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
At the time, Jesus halted the gameplay to speak with the referee, alleging that he had been told: “Go away you nero, you are just a n****”. Acerbi has denied the accusation and has instead claimed that he told Jesus that he would punch him “until he was black and blue”.
After reviewing audio, video and testimonies from those involved, Mastrandrea announced on Tuesday, 26 March, that the case would be dismissed due to lack of evidence.
However, Napoli are not happy with the decision. “We are even more stunned,” the club said in a statement via their official website on the same day.
They went on to add: “Napoli will no longer join merely façade initiatives of football institutions against racism and discrimination, we will continue to do them ourselves, as we have always done, with renewed conviction and determination.”
