Naya Rivera’s Family Settle Wrongful Death Lawsuit
The family of late actress Naya Rivera have privately settled their wrongful death lawsuit filed against various public institutions in California.
In July 2020, the “Glee” star travelled to Ventura County, California with her then four-year-old son, Josey, for a trip on Lake Piru. On the 8th of July, Nivera was reported missing after the toddler was found alone in their rented boat.
Five days later, she was officially declared dead. The cause of death was accidental drowning.
Following the incident, Nivera’s family sued for wrongful death and negligent emotional distress against the County of Ventura, Ventura County Parks and Recreation Management, and United Water Conservation District, on behalf of her son.
On Tuesday, 28 February, the family’s lawyer, Amjad Khan, released a public statement which read: “In Josey Hollis Dorsey and the Estate of Naya Rivera’s litigation relating to the drowning death of Naya Rivera on July 8, 2020, all parties have entered into a global settlement, which is subject to approval by the Ventura Superior Court on [16 March].”
The statement concluded: “Though the tragic loss of Josey’s mother can never truly be overcome, we are very pleased that the monetary settlement will significantly assist Josey with his life beyond this tragedy.”
