Nedbank Cup: Round of 32 Match-Ups Confirmed

The Nedbank Cup Round of 32 draw has set the stage for a line of exciting match-ups in South Africa’s top knockout competition, as eight participating amateur teams hope to make history by competing against various first-tier and second-tier clubs.

The draw – which took place on Thursday, 9 January – ensured that top teams such as Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs will not face each other in the early rounds, which adds to the hype.

The defending champions, Pirates, will kick off their title defense against Richards Bay, aiming for a third consecutive cup victory.

As for last season’s finalists, Sundowns – who are currently in first place on the Premier Soccer League table with 30 points – will take on third-tier team, Sibanye Golden Stars, presenting a seemingly advantageous start for the Brazilians.

Meanwhile, Chiefs – who are eager to break a trophy drought since their last Nedbank Cup win in 2013 – will face off against Free Agents FC, an amateur team from Gauteng. This will provide a chance for Amakhosi to make an impactful statement early on in the tournament.

The complete fixtures also include match-ups such as Polokwane City against The Bees, and Sekhukhune United versus Cape Town City.

Details regarding the match dates and venues will be confirmed in due course.
