N’Golo Kante Officially Ruled Out of World Cup

An unfortunate hamstring injury will see N’Golo Kante sidelined for four months as the midfielder recovers from his corrective surgery.

Chelsea revealed the news on Tuesday, 18 October via an official statement on their website.

The timing is particularly difficult for Kante, as he had previously hoped to represent France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup next month in Qatar.

The 31-year-old Frenchman suffered the injury on 14 August when Chelsea took on Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge Stadium in London, England. The teams ended the game in a 2-2 stalemate.

In the same statement, the Blues mentioned that Kante “visited a specialist with the club’s medical department to explore the options for his rehabilitation approach and it was mutually agreed for him to have surgery to repair the damage.”

They added that the midfielder had already undergone the successful surgery and is currently recovering.

Blues boss Graham Potter may need to take a critical look at Kante who, while undoubtedly a skilled athlete, has reportedly been plagued with injuries since 2019.

His Chelsea team-mate, defender Reece James, is reportedly also out of the running for the World Cup due to a recent knee injury sustained during a match with AC Milan last week.
