Oscar Nominations: Possible Contenders and Surprises

With the 2025 Oscar nominations just days away, this awards season is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in years.

While films like “The Brutalist”, “Emilia Pérez”, “Conclave”, and “Anora” dominate discussions, there’s no clear frontrunner, adding extra intrigue to the race for Best Picture. Other contenders such as “Wicked”, “Dune: Part Two”, and “A Real Pain” are also likely to feature.

Acting categories are brimming with talent. Adrien Brody (“The Brutalist”) is the favourite for Best Actor, alongside Timothée Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”). Demi Moore (“The Substance”) leads the Best Actress buzz, with Karla Sofía Gascón (“Emilia Pérez”) potentially making history as the first transgender nominee.

Meanwhile, Kieran Culkin (“A Real Pain”) and Zoe Saldaña (“Emilia Pérez”) are strong bets for Supporting accolades.

Directorial nominees may include Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”), Sean Baker (“Anora”), and Jacques Audiard (“Emilia Pérez”), with Coralie Fargeat (“The Substance”) as a potential wildcard.

With diverse storytelling and performances across the board, the 2025 Oscars promise surprises, historical moments, and a vibrant celebration of cinema. All will be revealed on Thursday, 23 January.
