Police Investigate Rapper’s High-Speed McLaren Crash

Authorities in Cape Town, Western Cape, are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a McLaren 570S crashed in Sea Point on Saturday, 1 March.

The vehicle, worth R3 million, was speeding dangerously and hit a pavement before colliding with a boundary wall.

The driver has been identified as Nigerian rapper 3GAR Baby, whose real name is Prince Daniel Obioma. He confirmed his involvement on Instagram the same day, sharing a photo from a medical facility and expressing his gratitude for surviving.

Viral footage shows the car speeding moments before the crash, while images of the injured rapper sitting in the road have fuelled public criticism.

Obioma and his brother, a passenger in the car, sustained moderate injuries and were taken to hospital. Many online have condemned the musician’s reckless driving, with many calling for legal action to be taken against Obioma.

Originally from Rivers State, Nigeria, Obioma now resides in Cape Town and recently released a six-track extended play titled “Grace”. The crashed McLaren was reportedly purchased last year for R7 million to celebrate his success.

This incident follows another high-profile crash last month, in which a Ferrari fatally struck Doctor Ncumisa Mdlokolo in a separate case of reckless driving.
