Postecoglou Slams Spurs After Shocking Defeat to Brighton
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou did not hold back in his assessment of his team’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, 6 October, describing it as “the most disappointing loss” since he joined the club.
Spurs had been 2-0 up by half-time at Falmer Stadium in Brighton, England, thanks to goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison, but a second-half collapse saw the hosts score three times in the space of 18 minutes.
The 59-year-old football boss was visibly frustrated, criticising his players for not playing with intensity and fight, which he believes are non-negotiable in elite football. He admitted this was the first time he had seen such a lack of competitiveness from his side.
Postecoglou stated that while losing is part of football, the way his team capitulated was unacceptable. “Football and life will trip you up if you get too far ahead of yourself and that’s what it looked like to me in the second half,” he stated grimly during the post-match interview.
Maddison echoed his manager’s sentiments, admitting the team did not cope well with the momentum shift.
The defeat leaves Spurs in ninth place with ten points, missing a chance to climb higher in the English Premier League table ahead of the international break.
