Pregnant Ashanti Announces Engagement to Nelly

Ashanti and Nelly are engaged – AND they’re going to be parents!

The musical couple first met in 2003. After a decade of on-off dating, they ended their relationship in 2013. Last September, however, they officially rekindled their romance.

Now, seven months later, not only is Ashanti expecting her first child with the 49-year-old “Hot in Herre” hitmaker, but she is also engaged to him.

“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope and anticipation,” she revealed in a statement that she shared with a US publication (published on Tuesday, 16 April).

The 43-year-old “Rain on Me” songstress then referred to Nelly as her “fiancé” in the statement.

“Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

Nelly has two biological children – son Cornell Hayes III and daughter Channelle – from his previous relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Channetta Valentine. He also adopted his sister Jackie Donahue’s children, Shawn and Sydney Thomas, following their mother’s death in 2005.
