Ratcliffe Ready to Apply Pressure at Man U

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has just taken over Manchester United, and he’s already pushing for big changes to be made.

The 71-year-old billionaire officially acquired 27.7% ownership stakes in the English club on Tuesday, 20 February, in a $1.25 billion deal after years of back-and-forth negotiations. As part of the deal, the INEOS chairman will also spend $300 million on club infrastructure.

During a press conference at the INEOS offices on Thursday, 22 February, Ratcliffe outlined his goals for the club, one of which is to see Man United return to the top of the English Premier League within the next three years.

“We have a lot to learn from the noisy neighbour [Manchester City], and our other neighbour [Liverpool],” Ratcliffe said humorously before he added: “They are the enemy at the end of the day and there’s nothing I would like better than to knock both of them or one of them off their perch.”

However, he later went on to admit that there was a lot to learn from both teams’ successes.

As the Red Devils get ready to host Fulham tomorrow, Saturday 24 February, at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, England, it’s evident that Ratcliffe will be taking a keen interest in the outcome.
