RIP Local Radio Legend Mark Pilgrim

In the early hours of Sunday morning, 5 March, renowned radio host Mark Pilgrim succumbed to stage four lung cancer after a valiant fight.

“Mark passed peacefully with his fiancé Adrienne at home. They were together for his last breath. The family thank you for being part of his journey,” the 53-year-old’s workplace, HOT 102.7FM, announced the sad news via Facebook and Twitter.

The father of two daughters – 12-year-old Tayla-Jean and 10-year- old Alyssa – previously beat aggressive Stage 3 testicular cancer in 1988.

However, in March 2022, the talk-show host received the news that he was once again diagnosed with the disease, this time in the lungs. Eventually, the cancer spread to his femur, the base of his spine and lymph nodes.

Since his passing, tributes from around South Africa have been pouring in for the local icon.

“What an incredible man. Fighting with a smile – for his life. So much to learn from this. May his soul rest in eternal power. #RIPMarkPilgrim,” actress Pearl Thusi said on Twitter.

“You fought with all of your heart, Mark. May you now rest peacefully. As God welcomes you with open arms, may He also keep your family and loved ones comforted,” television personality Boity Thulo added.
