Rowdy Fans Result in Another Fine for Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs have once again received a hefty fine from the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee (PSL DC).
Earlier this week, the Committee filed a misconduct charge against the Glamour Boys after their frustrated fans threw projectiles and other objects onto the pitch following their 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on 28 September.
According to Zola Majavu, the league’s official prosecutor, the Chiefs appeared before the PSL DC on Thursday morning, 10 October, and pleaded guilty to the charge.
Majavu declared that the club would be fined R150 000.
“They pleaded guilty as charged and they were given a monetary fine of R100 000, of which R50 000 is suspended on condition that during the period of suspension, which is up to the end of the season, they are not found guilty of a similar offence,” he said.
Further detailing how the total of R150 000 was determined, Majavu cited incidents from the 2023/2024 season, noting that the misconduct of fans had also led to fines for the Chiefs.
“Last season, they still had an outstanding and suspended fine of R100 000 from a similar incident. Effectively, this means now that they were convicted for this new offence, they will now pay an additional R100 000, which was previously suspended.
“In total, Chiefs will pay R150 000 plus the costs of the sitting of today – which are usually administratively computed by the league – and added to the R150 000.”
