SA Mourns Death of Grant Shakoane
The death of veteran “Metro FM” deejay, Grant Shakoane, has left the South African radio and entertainment industry in mourning.
In a tweet posted in the early hours of Thursday morning, 22 April, broadcaster Tim Modise confirmed Shakoane’s passing.
Modise wrote: “Like many of us and his friends, I’m saddened by the news. I extend my sympathies to Ausi Albertina & family [sic]. I wish you strength.”
The cause of death has not been disclosed, although Modise did tweet last Wednesday, 15 April, that Shakoane was “in a serious condition at one of the hospitals in Joburg.”
Affectionately nicknamed “Shebabadoo Shebaba”, Shakoane became famous for hosting a popular, weekly Sunday show in the 1980s on “Metro FM” and “Vuma FM”.
Heartfelt tributes flooded social media as friends and colleagues expressed their shock and offered sympathies following the prolific deejay’s untimely death.
Broadcaster Robert Marawa tweeted: “Thoughts and prayers to Ausi Albertina and her loving Family!! Such a deeply sad and emotional time for one who was so deeply loved and appreciated by many!! [sic]”
