SA School Receives New Computer Centre
A primary school in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province has received a major technological upgrade.
A brand new computer centre comprising 41 laptops, furniture, air-conditioning, CCTV, alarm and security was recently unveiled at JJ Matsane Primary School in Somerset.
The centre’s construction was made possible thanks to the partnership between Relate Bracelets – a non-profit organisation where seniors and disadvantaged individuals craft African-inspired bracelets – and the Protea Hotel by Marriott Kruger Gate.
The project – which was initiated by the leadership of the hotel as part of the company’s corporate social investment – totalled R500 000, of which Relate Bracelet donated R140 000.
Mpumalanga MEC for Education, Bonakele Majuba, said at the official handover ceremony: “We cannot deny that technological developments have influenced all aspects of our lives.”
He added: “With this donation, children will be able to access not only their local library but a global library, and that will enable them to also strengthen their critical thinking skills. Today, a new world has been opened, a door of hope has been opened.”
