SA’s Percy Tau Wins Top Award
Forward Percy Tau has been awarded one of southern Africa’s top footballing achievements.
On Thursday, 9 May, Tau beat Peter Shalulile (Namibia) and Lameck Banda (Zambia) to win the trophy for Men’s Player of the Year at the inaugural 2023 COSAFA Awards, which were held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
Playing for the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Brighton and Anderlecht, as well as for Bafana Bafana, Tau has proved to be an exemplary player on both the local and international scenes.
In August 2021, the 29-year-old joined Al Ahly, where he has proven to be a revelation: so far, he has scored 22 goals in 82 appearances for the club.
Most recently, he was instrumental in helping the Egyptian outfit win the 2022/23 CAF Champions League title.
Tau is set to start in the squad that is facing Baladiyat Al Mahalla SC in an Egyptian Premier League match-up tomorrow, Saturday 11 May – here’s hoping he can prove once again why he’s one of the best footballers in southern Africa, if not the entire continent!
