Sekhukhune and Polokwane Prepare for High-Stakes Derby

A crucial Limpopo derby awaits as Sekhukhune United host Polokwane City on Saturday, 14 March.

The home side enters the fixture in high spirits following a dominant 4-0 away victory against Chippa United, a result that propelled them to 11th in the standings.

Despite a recent exit from the Nedbank Cup via a penalty shootout against Milford FC, manager Eric Tinkler remains optimistic about his squad’s form. Reflecting on that performance, Tinkler stated: “I’m very, very happy with the performance that our boys put on tonight. I think they were exceptional.” He further added, “I am very proud of them, the effort that they put in.”

Conversely, Polokwane City are struggling for consistency. After a 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates and a subsequent 2-0 loss against Marumo Gallants, the visitors find themselves in 15th place with only 19 points. While Sekhukhune aims to break into the top eight to secure continental football, Polokwane is desperate to climb away from the relegation zone.

The match, held at Isak Steyl Stadium, features two sides with vastly different momentum, though the intensity of a local derby often levels the playing field.
