Sir Ian McKellen Receives COVID-19 Vaccine
Sir Ian McKellen has received the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.
The revered 81-year-old “Lord of the Rings” actor was part of a handful of lucky recipients – who are over 80-years-old – in the first week of the United Kingdom’s vaccination drive.
On Wednesday, 16 December, he visited the Arts Research Centre at Queen Mary University Hospital, London, to receive the jab that was developed by pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer.
Afterwards, Sir McKellen released a statement which said: “It’s a very special day, I feel euphoric … I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. I feel very lucky to have had the vaccine.”
Due to his advanced age making him vulnerable to the virus, he kept indoors for the majority of the year. However, he said that he enjoyed being “lazy” at home during lockdown.
The “X-Men” star also admitted that he had turned down several movie roles, as he didn’t want to catch COVID-19 while filming.
According to reports, those who received the initial dose can expect a booster jab 21 days later.
