Siyabonga Zubane, 23, Passes Away
Mzansi are once again in mourning following the death of “Gomora” actor, Siyabonga Zubane.
According to reports, Zubane – who played carjacker Sdumo on the hit telenovela – was found dead at his rental home in Soweto on Saturday, 7 May. He apparently took his own life, although this has yet to be confirmed or denied.
The 23-year-old’s death comes soon after the deaths of actor Patrick Shai and rapper Riky Rick: Shai took his life in January, with Rick taking his own a month later.
Connie Chiume, who plays Sonto on “Gomora”, confirmed to a local media outlet about Zubane’s death and expressed her devastation.
“We are so devastated about why we keep losing our young kids, our future leaders, talented people like this,” she mourned. “What’s going on, especially in our industry? We don’t know what to say, what to do, something needs to be done.”
Castmates such as Leera Mthethwa, Ama Qamata and Sannah Mchunu among others paid tribute to Zubane on social media.
“You often made us laugh, but we didn’t realise that your spirit was not okay,” Mchunu wrote on Instagram. “Sleep and rest, my boy. Our spirits are shattered. You were very respectful and handsome, and you loved yourself. We have lost a huge talent at ‘Gomora’. So much talent, Sdumo.”
