South African Gamers Unite to Combat Gender-Based Violence

This Women’s Month, South African gamers are getting behind a powerful initiative to combat gender-based violence (GBV) through a gaming tournament organised by Mettlestate.

The campaign, dubbed #GamersAgainstGBV, seeks to raise awareness and funds for the TEARS Foundation, an organisation dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

A series of streams will make up the event that runs from 1 to 8 August, with gamers nationwide encouraging their audiences to donate to the cause. The campaign will culminate on Women’s Day, 9 August, with a marathon stream from 9am to 5pm, where streamers will unite to raise as much money and awareness as possible.

TEARS Foundation, the beneficiary of this initiative, provides crucial services including crisis intervention, counselling, and legal advocacy for victims of GBV. The funds raised will help sustain these services and support ongoing efforts to tackle GBV in South Africa.

This initiative not only highlights the power of the gaming community to drive social change, but also offers a platform to promote a safer and more inclusive environment for gamers from all walks of life.
