Southampton Secure EPL Promotion
Southampton claimed their spot in the English Premier League (EPL) with a 1-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday, 26 May.
The two Championship teams went head-to-head at Wembley Stadium in London, England as they battled to secure themselves in the top division of the British football system.
Striker Adam Armstrong scored the match’s sole goal at the 24th-minute mark with help from his teammate, midfielder Will Smallbone.
“I’m so proud to be captain of this club. I’m so proud of the boys today, I think they’ve been unbelievable,” Southampton’s captain, Jack Stephens, told an international publication shortly after the game.
“I think we probably didn’t play our best game today but we showed a different side. A few people have doubted us over this season. Can we defend? Can we dig in? I think we really showed that today,” he added.
According to experts – thanks to projected matchday, broadcast and commercial revenues – the Saints could earn up to £140 million over the next three EPL seasons, with that number possibly increasing to more than £305 million if the club avoids relegation in the 2024/2025 season.
