Soweto Derby: Orlando Pirates Beat Moroka Swallows 2-0
Orlando Pirates reigned triumphant following their 2-0 Soweto Derby win over Moroka Swallows at Orlando Stadium, Gauteng on Tuesday night, 5 December.
Maintaining a 61% possession of the ball, Pirates kept Swallows on their toes throughout the match. Their efforts eventually bore fruit in the 39th minute when striker Evidence Makgopa not only scored their first goal of the night, but also netted his third league goal of the season.
In the 71st minute, substitute Monnapule Saleng came off the bench to replace Vincent Pule; barely a minute later, Saleng forced an own goal out of Swallows defender Sipho Sibiya.
At the final whistle, the Bucs won the Soweto Derby 2-0. This victory comes nearly a month after they beat rivals Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in their own derby match.
As a result of this latest win, Orlando Pirates are sitting comfortably in sixth place with 19 points on the Premier Soccer League rankings; however, Moroka Swallows are far from behind, as they currently occupy seventh place with 18 points.
