Sundowns Draw 2-2 With Al Ahly
Mamelodi Sundowns’ 14-match winning streak across all competitions has come to an end after drawing 2-2 with Al Ahly in their CAF Championship League Group B clash on Saturday, 25 February.
Playing at WE Al Ahly Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, both teams were locked at 0-0 until the 34th minute when Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile found an opening in their defence and successfully launched the ball into the back of the net.
Going into the second half with a 1-0 lead, Sundowns were humbled not only when Ahly’s Mohamed Abdelmonem scored an equaliser in the 59th minute, but also when Hussein El Shahat took advantage of their own defence and made an incredible shot from the near post.
Thankfully for the Brazilians, substitute Thapelo Morena saved the team from a loss by levelling the score in the 80th minute.
Despite the draw, Mamelodi Sundowns are still sitting pretty atop the Group B rankings with seven points; as for Al Ahly, they occupy second place with six points.
