Sundowns Officially Sign SuperSport Star

Mamelodi Sundowns have acquired another player, this time in the form of Thapelo Maseko.

Per a tweet shared on Tuesday, 18 July, the 20-year-old winger is joining the Brazilians from their rivals, SuperSport United. His salary and the length of his contract are not yet known.

In an interview with a local media outlet that same day, Maseko hopes that his quick pace will keep him in good stead at Chloorkop.

“Speed has always been part of my game,” he said. “In football, like everything in life, there are distances. With that said we keep going faster, faster because we never leave the side of the goal.”

Maseko scored four goals in 24 appearances for SuperSport last season, helping them to complete their campaign with a third-place finish. With his impressive speed, it’s no wonder that even Belgian outfit, KVC Westerlo, was vying heavily for his signature before they lost out to Sundowns.

Maseko is Sundowns’ fourth big signing, having signed Junior Mendieta, Lesiba Nku and Lucas Ribeiro Costa in recent weeks.

He will begin pre-season training with his new team in Europe before they take on Dutch outfit, NAC Breda, in a friendly match in Amsterdam on 28 July.
